Bed Bugs Are Back:
It’s the common rhyme that we all can recite: “Don’t let the bed bugs bite.” But, we never seriously thought they’d invade our home. No longer can people hide the fact that Bed Bugs are back and in more numbers than ever before.
Maybe you thought of them as a thing of the past. Or, that they would never infest your home. We all thought Pesticides wiped them out in the 1950’s. However, pesticides only took care of them in modern, populated areas. They continued to be a problem in underdeveloped countries.
Fast forward to today. Movie theaters are shutting down to “steam” the Bed Bugs out. A flight was delayed because there were Bed Bugs in the cockpit. 5 Star hotels are seeing a huge rise in Bed Bugs. Local transit stations (MARTA) are having Bed Bug problems. Global travel is the norm. Guests are visiting remote locations where bed bugs are able to thrive and they’re bringing them back. Travelers from around the country and world are acting as first-class tickets for these hitch hikers. Bed bugs can be found in planes, trains, buses, depots, terminals, hotels, theaters, and are even being moved around by cleaning services. Students from all over are experiencing bed bugs in college dorms, and sometimes they’re even bringing them home or spreading them to hotels. Children have been found to have Bed Bugs in their book-bags that were brought home from school. So what does this mean for you? It means that once again, Bed Bugs are something to be on the lookout for and precautionary measures need to be taken. More importantly, the proper treatment needs to be performed before the infestation gets out of control and Pesticides ARE NOT the answer.
Bed Bug Elimination Program:
There is clear evidence that Bed Bugs are developing a tolerance to pesticides and it is critical that homeowners understand that alternative measures need to be taken to protect you and your family from this ferocious pest. But, selecting a company that claims to use “heat” or “steam” just isn’t enough. Bed Bugs can tolerate temperatures up to 115-120 degrees Fahrenheit. Steamers have been tested and proven to work against Bed Bug populations. HOWEVER, homeowners should be cautious about the steamers used. Wet Steam vs. Dry Steam is critical in bedroom areas. The PSI and the temperature of the steam produced are two very important factors in this treatment method. Bed Bugs can not handle extreme temperatures very long. The combination of higher temperatures at higher PSI levels is what puts an end to Bed Bugs. However, most steamers available on the market just cannot reach a temperature high enough or PSI levels high enough to kill off Bed Bugs and their eggs. Mattress and box-spring covers are also an important step in treatment. Mattresses should never be treated with a pesticide. Bed frames, end tables, dressers, armoire’s, baseboards, windows, pictures, lamps, and any other items in the room should be inspected and treated properly with the heat. We use a combination of dry steam, mattress covers, and diatomaceous earth to treat bed bug infestations. Breda also uses the Termatrac device to detect Bed Bugs in hidden wall voids. This treatment method is what enables Breda to put a definite end to “Don’t Let The Bed Bugs Bite.”
